There are several ways to commence Pilates with 'Pilates of Seaford'.
These are outlined below:
Level 1 Class
Classes are levelled to allow you to select a suitable class. If you are new to Pilates, please select a level 1 class. If you are medically fit, you may choose to join directly into a level 1 class, although many people prefer to attend a one to one session or taster session beforehand to assist their undertstanding of the class.
For the current class times please see the timetable on the home page.
Please e-mail to check vacancy remains before using on-line paypal payment facility to left of bookings page or sending cheque One to One Sessions.
A one-to-one session is the best way to commence Pilates. If you are medically fit, it is not essential, but a one-to-one session does give you sound foundations for the technique which you can apply to your classes. Principles such as neutral spine, core stability and Pilates breathing are covered alongside posture. Several moves will be explained.
If you are commencing Pilates following physiotherapy or have a medical condition to work around, at least one-to-one is essential. In fact, clients may wish to have one-to-one Pilates sessions for several months or years, rather than attend general classes. This is because, whilst Pilates is frequently recommended by medical professionals, and can be extremely beneficial to health, particular moves could aggrevate certain conditions. Adaptations for this are explained in a one-to-one setting and there is time for you to ask questions, so that you can understand your adaptations before attending a general class. Indvidual attention also allows you to gain the best results from your Pilates workout.
Taster Sessions
These are held several times a year. A taster session explains the concepts of neutral spine and core engagement. Good posture and several pilates moves are covered. Vacant places in courses will be available to book at the taster session. The cost is £8.00, pre-booking and payment guarantees a place. 10 places available.email pilatesofseaford@yahoo.com to book.
Before attending Pilates: Check any medical concerns with your G.P. Also check with your G.P. if you are unused to exercise or over 69 years of age.
Complete the medical form downloadable from this website to the left of the bookings page.
Bring:
The completed medical form
A small cushion
A hand towel
Water to sip whilst exercising
Clothing
We are quite casual, there's no need to spend out on special fitness clothes at first until you are sure you wish to continue Pilates. The clothing is as follows:
A t-shirt or fitness top. If you are happy to wear a close fitting top this allows me to see your posture more clearly, but it's more important to feel comfortable in whatever you wear.
Leggings, jog bottoms, any trouser that you can move in easily - elasticated waist, fold over top, tie or similar. (Gossypium in Lewes & on web have fold over pants in fairtrade, organic cotton if you wish to purchase special pants).
Footwear
Bare feet, socks or Pilates specific shoes (please try to avoid wearing tights to class). If you prefer, some dance socks have non-slip bottoms with little studs. Toe socks separate the toe joints which is good for foot health (Toe socks are available from the Amazon Pilates shop to the left of the homepage on this website).
