I live locally, having worked in the area for over seventeen years as a primary school teacher at Newlands, County Primary and Cradle Hill Schools. My academic qualifications include a BA Hons Degree and Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Having had serious back probems myself, I finally found Pilates and have never looked back. My Pilates qualifications include the full Masters Diploma of the Pilates Institute in London, which comprised over four years of training combining practical Pilates teaching experience with examinations, including theory papers in anatomy and physiology and exercise. My Masters Diploma comprises of two Diplomas; matwork and equipment.
The Matwork Diploma consists of Pilates matwork at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Practical class planning, teaching and evaluation, teaching observations and assessments were required. I undertook courses in teaching clients on a one to one basis, devising Pilates programmes adapted to the individual. Case studies with six clients each being taught for eight Pilates sessions with write ups and evaluations formed the foundation of the course. Extra courses in Seniors, Pre and Post Natal Pilates, Shoulder, Back, Knee and Foot were included. I undertook training to use small pilates balls, the large stability balls, the flexibands and the isotoner ring.
The Pilates Equipment Diploma involved teaching using special equipment such as the reformer featured on this website. Again, case studies of six clients each being taught for eight hours were required, accompanied by training in London. Other equipment such as the spine corrector and the cadilac were experienced. This course takes around eighteen months.
In addition to the Pilates Institute Masters Diploma, I achieved the Pilates institute Remedial Diploma. This course was taught by pysiotherapists. It involved learning about different medical conditions and appropriate exercise adaptions plus case studies and an examination.
I am a qualified OCR Pilates exercise professional.
I am registered with REPs, the Register of Exercise Professionals and have recently taken and passed additional examinations to achieve level three on the REPs register.
Other courses undertaken include Pain, Mental Health, Choreography and Pilates and First Aid.
I am currently training in Anatomy and Physiology for Children together with Children's Street Dance.
